Imagine going through life being a grumpy dude. Yeah, grumpy. Then through life, calmness finally comes upon you and life seems to make more sense. But through that time, destruction was left behind. When I see this piece, i always envision a person going through life having challenges, marriage, parenthood, and retirement. Through all that, sadness, hurt, and self-destruction/medicate (anyone's drug of choice - Alcholol, weed, whatever) occurs. It's only through the later years do we realize that we calm down and enjoy life.

It's amazing what happens when you do consecutive drawings and you end up with a wicked drawing that you scratch your head over. Turned into a wicked bunny cartoon that i couldn't un-see. This is where you go with your gut and accept and move on. I eventually liked this piece quite a bit. I AM interested in painting this and seeing what I get. May just go through this on Procreate and see what I get.

Was perusing YouTube around 2017 and came across someone specializing in lips and watched their videos for an hour or so. So amused by the artists that I’d give it a go. Thinking of my own wife’s lips, I initially gave some form of green as the background but wasn’t enthusiastic about it. Since it was acrylic, I re-colored the background to a black and copper mix. Turned out to be a good match. Started the outline with oil, and it ended with a pretty impressive finish.

Depressed times required fun times. I read Manga (Japanese comics) and Manhwa (South Korean comics) and every so often ill scratch the itch to redraw/copy a drawing I find fun. A different approach to destressing. It’s nice to SEE something. copy and apply your own touch. Anyway, I love these little cartoon snippets in the sketchbook as it always gives me a smile.

UPDATE Tuesday: Completed the Acrylic paint update. Went through MANY color variations, but always came back to black and white. Only added the line variation to add depth but like this update. This is an update to the original “Anna at night” posting. From Pastel, to color palette variations, I believe this works.

I was frustrated with traffic when I scribbled this onto paper and it took 3 days to finish. I drove through Minneapolis on HWY 36. The bridge was gorgeous, but the traffic was horrible. Simply put, going through the city is always a chore. It's a total love/hate relationship. At one point in my life, after leaving Alaska, I lived in North East Minneapolis across from Thomas Edison High School. I loved the area’s restaurants, but not the area. But like everything, it was a location that had a place to rent.

This piece brings calm and happiness. Given the scribbles in the background, it gave the impression of a person skipping in the rain, enjoying the fruits of life and the ballon (to me) a sense of euphoria. Reminds me of the 90’s band Garbage and the song “ Only Happy When It Rains”. Oh, man was that a sweet song, but the piece has similarities to the song.

The piece started with an abstract face but evolved into a windmill. This is why I love this form of art. It evolves. What you feel you start with changes and that is ok. This piece just reminds me of the massive structures that can be seen while driving through the US, and realizing that they produce something is amazing. The simplicity but complexity in the structure always leaves me in awe. Always leads me to look up YouTube videos on how they are put together and how they generate power.

Just wanted to throw this piece out there. To me, it was a failure. BUT, recognized failure leads to learning, improvement, and progression. Fail fast and improve quicker. Why post this….on a Friday? This is sometimes the reality of art. You make a few failures but improve over time. Failures should be viewed as opportunities in life to move forward. For every beautiful piece I see on Instagram, I’m reassured that there have to be a few bombed pieces to get to something beautiful. Art imitates with Life

They give meaning to life. As an adult, sometimes laughter is lost in the confusion of life, but when you find people who can draw that out of you, that truly is a blessing. Find your smile.

Went to a lovely outdoor event for my child’s school. Lol. Stood in line for an hour for a brat and found out that they were out 2 people ahead of me. But otherwise, the event was lovely and parents all showed up, if not clicked up quickly. But taking a break to listen to a musician was nice and pumped out this scribble. Always amazed by how things come to fruition after some patience.
